Foreign-language vocabulary

Build vocabulary in another language, one word at a time

If you already understand simple sentences, a daily word can keep you in contact with the language and gradually widen your vocabulary. Verbobum complements language study; it is not a replacement for a course.

Who is this approach for?

It works best for learners who already have some foundations and want regular exposure to new vocabulary. Choose French, English, Spanish, German, Portuguese, or Italian in your settings.

The word, definition, and examples are all written in the selected language. This is deliberate immersion, not a bilingual translation card.

Learn more than an isolated translation

Examples reveal the sentence patterns and situations in which a word sounds natural. They help you connect meaning with usage instead of memorising a bare equivalent.

  • Read the definition before reaching for a translation
  • Notice how the word behaves in two or three sentences
  • Return to its permanent archive page when you need it

A two-minute practice

Read the message, hide it, and explain the word in your own terms. Then write one sentence connected to your day. Tomorrow, recall the previous word before opening the new one.

Receiving a word does not guarantee learning it. That brief retrieval effort turns a message into active practice.

A useful complement, not a complete course

Verbobum does not teach an entire grammar, provide conversation practice, or replace extended listening. It creates a small vocabulary appointment between your other learning activities, without another app to remember to open.
